Blankenburg / Michaelstein

Along a 4.5 km long hiking trail, which starts at the monastery Michaelstein and ends there again as a circular trail, there is a lot of geological information.

In total, ten geological discoveries will give an insight into the earth’s 400 million years of evolutionary history. The trail leads from the monastery over the Mönchemühlenteiche and through the Teufelsbadbach valley, past the former healing mud works for the Teufelsbad, back to the monastery.

The geological trail is characterized by symbolic figures in the form of a crystal formation and an ammonite. Information boards are set up at all ten outcrops for the inquisitive hiker, which provide appropriate technical explanations. An example of practical geotope protection is the hangancut in the Teufelsbach valley, which was declared a protected natural monument in 1997 because of its special significance for the history of the earth and the history of science.
