Röhrigschacht Mining Museum

The underground show mine, which was opened in 1991, is distinguished not only by the specifics of our branch of mining, but also by the fact that visitors can travel 283 metres down into the shaft on an original shaft winding system. A mine railway then takes them over 1000 metres into a 19th century mining field, where the development of mining from its beginnings to modern times is demonstrated and explained using exhibits. 

The operation of various mining compressed air devices illustrates the enormous strain to which the miners were exposed. The extremely low excavations of 40 and 80 cm allow visitors to understand the hard physical labour of the miners. The tour concludes with a visit to a main pit fan.

For technical and organisational reasons, guided tours are only possible for groups of up to 31 people. Intermediate rope rides are organised for larger groups or if required.
