What is a Geopark?

The UNESCO Global Geopark Harz . Braunschweiger Land . Ostfalen is one of 147 UNESCO geoparks in 41 countries worldwide. UNESCO Geoparks are areas with geological sites and landscapes of international geoscientific importance. They invite us to better understand our planet and the conditions of life and to shape regions worth living in the footsteps of the past.

Our manifold tasks as a UNESCO Geopark are:

• We receive geoscientific heritage of international importance for the future.

• We make this heritage comprehensible and tangible to visitors as well as residents through education, protection

and moderation of a sustainable development of their region.

• We promote identification with the region, tourism and sustainable economic development.

• We work worldwide closely together to make earth history tangible in other countries and to make the future

   sustainable there.
