Sponsor hans Werner Schlichting and board member Detlef Kaatz welcomed the expansion of the Geopark partner network to include SG Grasleben. Together they want to promote the Geopark and expand the infrastructure according to the requirements of UNESCO.

The mayor of The velvet community of Grasleben Gero Janze emphasized that the local highlights of the municipality such as the Mariental Monastery with Lapidarium, the Markgraf’scher Hof Salt Museum and the last active salt mine in the region should be put together and thus made better known. He sees the added value of direct membership in particular in the use of the Geopark network in the tourism sector.

The mayor of Königslutter Alexander Hoppe emphasized that one can be proud to be part of one of only six UNESCO Global Geoparks in Germany and to be able to use this label for municipal work.

The Geopark-Carrier Association is currently actively promoting the fact that the municipalities and unitary municipalities of the districts of the Geopark area become members in order to further improve internal cooperation in the largest geopark in Europe. Head of the office Henning Zellmer used the occasion to present the plans for the establishment of a permanent municipal geopark committee. This will make the municipalities more directly involved in the Geopark organisation in the future.
