Over the last 450 million years, the face of the Braunschweig region has been characterised by movements of the continental plates, changing distributions of land and sea, different climates and the resulting weathering processes, erosion and sedimentation.
The rocks that can be found in the Geopark as a result of these processes cover a time span from the Palaeozoic to the Neolithic. Specimens from the various eras were collected from the entire area and arranged in chronological order in the geological foam wall at Lake Dowesee.
Guided tours of the geological Schaumauer can be booked through the Geopark.
