The Southern Harz Nature Park is home to the centre of the Southern Harz gypsum karst landscape alongside the densely forested Harz foothills. This is where the karst hiking trail of the same name takes you through a refreshingly green and surprisingly varied natural area with water-filled sinkholes, gypsum humps, caves and springs.
In 2011, the hiking trail, with its many attractions, even became a quality trail, recognised by the German Hiking Association. In order to be awarded this title, many criteria must be met, which give the hiking experience on this trail a special charm. In addition to the beauty and variety of the landscape, it is the narrow paths that make the heart of every hiker beat faster.
The entire length of the trail (233 km) stretches from Osterode in Lower Saxony to Pölsfeld in Saxony-Anhalt. In the Südharz Nature Park, it winds its way through the impressive landscape over a length of almost 54 kilometres.
