This geopoint is a paradise for those interested in earth history, for geologists and all those who want to become one. Here Elmkalk can be found in all its variants.
At the northern edge, the quarry wall shows two workstone benches with the crumbling intermediate of the mergeal “wave limestone”. A piled-up pile of shell limestone debris invites you to knock and collect. On the second platform, lined up in a pearl-lined manner, there are some centenarian-heavy shell limestone chunks, which can give the visitor with their sediment structures and fossils information about the deposition conditions of this shallow sea.
The quarry is located, following the L 290, about 1.5 km southwest of Königslutter. It is a 15-minute walk from the Lutterspring car park.
