The Upper Harz Mining Museum in Clausthal-Zellerfeld is one of the oldest museums in Terms of technology history in Germany.
With a collection of exhibits, which is unique in connection with the original mining facilities in the open-air area, the historical development of ore mining from the Middle Ages to the end of the 19th century is shown and the visitor is offered an insight into the technical achievements of mining.
The guided tours of the show mine and the outdoor facilities with original mines convey their own atmosphere underground and illustrate the harsh working conditions, but also the inventiveness of the miners over many centuries. The museum shows the history of the Upper Harz gang ore mining in various exhibitions. Important special collections give the visitor an insight into the technical developments and document the living conditions of the people in this region.
