Upper Harz Mining Museum

The Upper Harz Mining Museum in Clausthal-Zellerfeld is one of the oldest museums of technical history in Germany. 

The historical development of ore mining from the Middle Ages to the end of the 19th century is illustrated with a unique collection of exhibits in conjunction with the original mining equipment in the open-air area, offering visitors an insight into the technical achievements of mining.
The guided tours through the show mine and the outdoor facilities with original mining equipment convey the unique atmosphere underground and illustrate the hard working conditions, but also the ingenuity of the miners over many centuries. The museum shows the history of Upper Harz Gangerz mining in a variety of exhibitions. Important special collections give visitors an insight into the technical developments and document the living conditions of the people in this region.
