Glasebach Mine Museum

Glasebach mine

The above-ground facility includes an exhibition with exhibits on old and modern mining in the Straßberg mining district and the Glasebach mine.

The open-air area contains intact machinery for demonstration and documentation. The underground area is originally related to the old mining of the 18th century. The visitor tour begins in the above-ground wheel room with the reconstructed artificial wheel (diameter 9.5 metres), 21 metres below the headframe and leads over the tunnel floor. The first and second levels can be accessed via a staircase built into the main shaft.

Of particular importance are the still existing original parts of the "Straßberger Schwingkunst" (water lifting technology), the oak panelling of the roadways, the evidence of old mining techniques, artistic dry stone walls and the rich and colourful mineralisation of the mine. The tour lasts approx. 80 minutes and extends to a depth of 40 metres.
