Baumann's Cave is one of the oldest show caves in the world, where organised tours have been taking place since 1646. It was named after the miner Friedrich Baumann, who, according to an old legend, discovered the cave by chance while searching for iron ore. The largest cavity in the Baumann Cave is the Goethe Hall.
Hermann's Cave
Hermann's Cave was discovered in 1866 during road construction work. The cave was named after its explorer Hermann Grotrian. On 1 May 1890, the cave was the first in Germany to be equipped with electric lighting. Magnificent stalactites and impressive sinter formations characterise this cave. Hermann's Cave is the only place in Germany where you can see cave olms. The animals were introduced in the 1930s.
