The Grasleben Museum Association runs a museum on the history of the salt village of Grasleben in the more than 160-year-old three-sided courtyard built in the Thuringian-Franconian style. The mining of rock salt at the Braunschweig-Lüneburg plant, which has continued for over 100 years, has characterised the development of the village to this day. In the permanent exhibition "History(s) of farm, village and salt", visitors to the salt house can immerse themselves in the history of Grasleben over the last two centuries.
In the barn wing, the association organises regularly changing special exhibitions on a wide variety of topics, such as the world of spices, the development of trade and commerce, the storage of cultural assets in the rock salt works and currently "100 years of salt shakers", the history of an everyday object that is usually hardly noticed. The association has published books on the last two exhibitions, which can be purchased at the farm.
Many different events take place on the farm grounds throughout the year, including farm festivals, bazaars, song afternoons and much more. Readings, lectures and small concerts round off the programme. A coffee bar invites you to linger over home-baked goods, and you can browse for second-hand items in the jumble sale and bookshop.
