The Tetzelstein and a monument to the legend commemorate the indulgence preacher Johann Tetzel. According to legend, Tetzel was robbed at this place by the Knight of Hagen, who had previously bought a letter of indulgence from Tetzel for his later sins. He held this letter under Tetzel's nose before robbing him of the money.
