International Museum Day on 17 May

International Museum Day takes place every year in May – this year on May 17th – and is proclaimed worldwide by the International Council of Museums. The aim is to draw attention to the importance and diversity of museums and to invite visitors to explore. Often, admission is even free on this day, or special promotions are offered.

The State Natural History Museum Braunschweig is also participating in International Museum Day with the motto „Museums uniting a divided world“, offering a varied programme for the whole family.
The Geopark Information Centre in Königslutter am Elm is open from 2 PM to 5 PM.
Further offers can be found in the Geopark event calendar from page 48.

Fun Fact: Germany is one of the countries with the most museums in the world - with around 6,500 to 7,500 museums. This means there are significantly more museums here than in many other European countries and, consequently, many opportunities to experience nature, history, and culture up close.
