World Ocean Day – 08.06.2026

The International Day of the Ocean is celebrated every year on June 8th and highlights the great importance of the oceans for climate, food, and the Earth's balance. At the same time, it reminds us of the importance of their protection in the face of environmental problems such as pollution and climate change.

Fun Fact: Actually, our planet should be called „Ocean“ and not „Earth“, as around 71 percent of the Earth's surface is covered by oceans. And the amazing thing is, large parts of it remain largely unexplored to this day!

An exciting example from our region is the event „Geopoint Jura Sea Schandelah: Landscape, Nature and Earth History“ on June 21st, 2026. Here, you can experience how our region was covered by a sea millions of years ago and what traces this has left behind to this day.
