Modern agroforestry systems – building blocks for promoting structural diversity and biodiversity in agricultural landscapes?

Modern agroforestry systems are adapted to the demands of current land use practices. Their tree rows consist of fast-growing woody plants that are harvested for energy every 3-6 years. This creates new structures in agricultural landscapes, which can also serve as habitats and ecological corridors for wildlife. On an experimental site near Wendhausen (Lehre municipality, Helmstedt district), the potential of such systems for biodiversity and structural diversity was investigated, and whether they are suitable as a production-integrated conservation measure.
